A Feast For Ramadan

This short documentary (8 minutes) follows a Syrian family living in Surrey, BC, during one night of Ramadan, from sunset to sunrise. As the sun goes down the family prepares to break their fast, bringing the audience into the mouth-watering process of preparing a traditional Ramadan feast. The holy month of Ramadan is observed by 1.8 billion Muslims around the world, yet the nightly feasts and rituals are deeply personal to each family. What does it mean for Mariam & her mother Enas, refugees from Syria who arrived to Vancouver in 2016, to celebrate Ramadan away from their home country?

I directed, filmed and edited this short documentary, which was supported by CBC Vancouver.
