Athelney Pass

It is always good medicine to immerse oneself in wild landscapes. The hours behave differently, and the mental noise of lower altitudes becomes silenced by glacial time. Water freezes and thaws, trees grow and decay, and not a single thought is given to the drama below. I found this particularly heartening after the 2016 election. What is 4 years in geological time? What is a human life, and it’s micro dramas, set against a backdrop of ice and stone?

This collection is taken from a recent adventure into BC’s Coastal Range, northwest of Pemberton, in a remote valley called Athelney Pass. It was gruelling in body and enlivening in spirit, and marked the passage into my third decade.
